Ground-Clearing In Gaza Begins For Trump Presidential Library

Trump has not ruled out satellite presidential libraries in the US.

Netzarim Corridor, Gaza Strip, February 10 – The Israel Defense Force brought a team of bulldozers back into this coastal Mediterranean territory today to launch a long-term construction project: a facility that, in the tradition of retired or soon-to-be-retired chief executives of the US, will preserve the papers, artefacts, and legacy of that chief executive once he departs the White House – in this case, the first such facility outside formal US territory.

The Donald John Trump Presidential Library will occupy four acres of prime real estate in this northern half of the Gaza Strip. A spokeswoman for the president estimated that completion of the library will likely take place only after Trump ends his second term in early 2029 – given that so many of the items and materials necessary for a traditional presidential library will still be needed in the White House during the term.

“It’s a forward-looking project,” explained White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “One of the president’s chief legacies, dating back to his first administration, is making strides toward peace in the Middle East. During his first term, the chief elements of those strides involved recognizing Israeli claims in the Golan Heights, the legitimacy of Israeli communities beyond the 1949 ceasefire lines, and the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, which of course meant moving the US Embassy there from Tel Aviv.”

“That kind of bold leadership paved the way for the Abraham Accords,” she continued, referring to peace agreements between Israel and several Persian Gulf states. “It smashed the failed paradigms of the last half-century, which shielded Palestinians from negative consequences for refusing to make peace with Israel. It’s only fitting that a location so pregnant with meaning for further resolution of the regional morass, given the president’s assertions regarding population transfer and the destruction of Hamas rule, become the site of his signature foreign-policy achievements.”

Leavitt also noted that Trump has not ruled out satellite presidential libraries in the US, or elsewhere. “Depending on how things work out in those places, I understand the president is weighing the possibilities of such facilities in, for example, Greenland, Canada, the Panama Canal, and, if the engineering isn’t too challenging, the Gulf of America.”

Candidates for Domestic locations for a Trump Presidential Library include Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, where a split-second turn of the head caused an assassin’s bullet to hit only his ear; and the site of the erstwhile USAID headquarters.
