Your Children Will Be As The Stars: Forever Distant

Perhaps thou wishest to undergo a trial run with thy wife’s Egyptian maidservant? Thou canst always disown the tyke if he displeaseth thee.

crepuscular-rays-2I am the LORD who hath taken thee out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give unto thee this land, and I say to thee: lift thy eyes to the heavens and behold the stars, for as the stars, so will thy children forever be, so distant as to be unreachable. Alternatively, they will be as the dust of the Earth: constantly underfoot.

Look, thou art the one who constantly wanteth children. I could have told thee long ago what parenthood entaileth. I have been at this Eternal Father thing for lo two thousand years now, and do possess some experience in this regard. But thou hast been dead set on reproducing, so emotionally attached to the idea, that I could not bear to disabuse thee of it. The time hath come, however, to set things straight: fatherhood is no picnic, and thou hast no guarantee that thy children will even want to have anything to do with thee once they reacheth a certain age. Get thee used to it. I know verily how few of My creations seeketh Me. Expectest-thou thy offspring to be so different? Get thee real.

I might yet work miracles to provide thee with a son, or more, but know ye that the parallel metaphor to the stars is that of the dust of the Earth, and if thou art serious about being a parent, then get thee accustomed to a little being forever getting in thy way. Tryest thou to tend sheep when a loudmouthed toddler insisteth on carrying the staff all by himself, forcing thee to a snail’s pace and losing sight of the flock. I challenge thee to maintain proper alliances with local potentates when some snot-nosed blabbermouth keepeth kicking visiting dignitaries in the shins and grabbing the breasts of their women, who thinketh him so cute they cannot resist picking him up to cradle him. Sayeth not thou hast not been warned. Dost thou not remember that child-rearing is a curse pronounced on the first man and woman?

Well, ok, if thou insist. Perhaps thou wishest to undergo a trial run with thy wife’s Egyptian maidservant? Thou canst always disown the tyke if he displeaseth thee.

I’m telling thee, thou art asking for trouble. Thou art set on this path, I see. Be warned: thou shalt form an attachment to thy children, but they shall grow ever distant as they forge their own independent identities. As distant as the heavenly bodies.

And by My name, there will be times you feelest like tying them up, putting them upon an altar, and slaughtering them.
