Interrogators Forget Which Criminal Probe Of Netanyahu They’re Conducting

It does not help, say experts, that the news media and Opposition politicians conflate the various investigations.

Tel Aviv, March 6 – Investigators questioning Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in one of several open inquiries into his alleged misconduct in multiple cases keep losing track of which investigation they are pursuing at the moment, a police official admitted today.

Vice Commissioner Nava Nad told reporters that on at least six occasions in the last four weeks, the interrogators facing the prime minister brought the wrong sets of files to the room, and posed questions to him that related to the wrong case among the four pending investigations into corruption, breach of trust, and other ethics violations.

“Over the last four to six weeks, our investigators have asked for some of the wrong materials to be brought into the interrogation room,” explained Nad. “This happens occasionally, of course, given the volume of files and other materials our office handles, but in this set of instances the room for confusion is much greater. There are four open investigations right now. It’s a lot to keep track of at once. At least I think it’s four – Haggai, could you confirm that number for me? What”s the most up-to-date figure?” Her assistant confirmed the number, pronouncing it accurate as of this morning.

“I can’t completely fault the investigators for this development, but we obviously need to handle this better,” she continued. “I will be consulting with Commissioner [Roni] Alsheikh and Minister [of Internal Security Gilad] Erdan about reexamining and revamping our procedures.”

It does not help, say experts, that the news media and Opposition politicians conflate the various investigations. “It’s one thing for Labor MKs to treat the slew of criminal probes as a single mass of evidence against Netanyahu’s fitness to continue serving as premier,” argued Channel 10 reporter and commentator Raviv Drucker. “It’s often dishonest and distorted, not to mention hypocritical, but that’s politics. It’s another entirely for us journalists to confuse our listeners, viewers, and readers with developments from each investigation while continually mentioning all the other investigations going on against Bibi.” Journalists would never, ever let their political biases show, insisted Drucker, certainly not in cases so important as to involve the warmongering corrupt nepotistic opportunistic demagogue Netanyahu. He added that the press has a duty to remain neutral until the villainous King Bibi is vanquished.

Police declined to share the specifics of the confusion episodes, citing the confidential nature of the questioning, but some preliminary outlines have emerged. An investigator who gave his name as H disclosed only that at least at this stage, he and his colleagues were no longer confusing the criminal probes against the prime minister with the criminal probes against his wife.
