It’s all the more mystifying considering the successful deployment of ‘Islamophobia’ in an analogous capacity.
Tel Aviv, July 17 – Ministry of Defense officials expressed shock today following the publication of a report that not a single Israeli soldier has undergone training to wield charges of antisemitism to silence enemies.
Military and civilian higher-ups at the ministry demanded an immediate inquiry Wednesday morning, reported witnesses, upon discovering that no personnel have been taught to use a weapon Israel’s enemies appear to fear most: accusations of hatred for Jews, deployed to discredit those who aim to level legitimate criticism of the Jewish State. In fact, the report notes, even outside the military, Israel seems to employ no one tasked with hurling such accusations, a fact that the auditors characterize as shortsighted in light of the vulnerability that the country’s enemies display in that respect.
“Numerous terrorist and pro-terrorist elements at home and abroad spill significant verbiage indicating they view accusation of antisemitism as a potent weapon to silence them,” the report states. “Nevertheless, the IDF, the Mossad, and other official organs of the State, including the Foreign Service, prepare not a single person to cast such aspersions. Given the fear that accusation of antisemitism sparks among such hostile elements, it remains inexplicable that Israel has not adopted such a robust tool of defense policy.”
Analysts shared the auditors’ puzzlement. “To hear anti-Zionists tell it, the one thing they fear most is being characterized as antisemitic instead of just critical of Israel,” observed Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Figg Leif. “Far more effort and concern go into trying to neutralize such accusations than appear to be warranted in terms of how often the charge gets used to silence criticism of Israel. This would appear to point to anti-Israel elements as sensing their own significant vulnerability in that regard. I’m confused as the next guy as to why Israel doesn’t wield that weapon more, if at all considering how powerful a weapon it is claimed to be.”
“It’s all the more mystifying considering the successful deployment of ‘Islamophobia’ in an analogous capacity,” remarked Middle East Policy Forum Deputy Director Haposelbe Mumoposel. “Progressives cower at the prospect of being branded anti-Muslim if they speak out against some very not-progressive phenomena in Muslim society, whereas anti-Israel partisans have never been known to suppress their opinions. Perhaps if supporters or officials of Israel began bandying ‘antisemite’ about the way Islamist terrorism apologists cry ‘Islamophobia!’ Israel might fare better in the public image. Certainly their opponents are afraid of it.”
