Bibi Drooling At Political Hay Trump Making Of Adversarial Press

Caesarea, January 11 – Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has nothing but envy for the scale of exploitation President-Elect Donald Trump has wrought with hostile media coverage, to his political advantage, and wishes the Israeli media would attack him as vociferously as US media attacks Trump so that the Israeli premier could claim persecution to the same degree, then reap the political benefits.

Aides to Netanyahu reported today that the prime minister was heard muttering in jealous awe at the scale of hostility Trump faces from American media, to the point that several notable outlets have run with unconfirmed reports of outrageous Trump behavior in their enthusiasm to attack him. The spuriousness of the reports, especially a BuzzFeed story today involving Russian prostitutes and a urination fetish, has enabled the president-elect to dismiss all journalism hostile to him as unreliable and politically motivated. Netanyahu, say the aides, would give an arm and a leg to face such rabid opposition in mainstream Israeli media, instead of the stories of his alleged corruption, cronyism, and other misconduct that appears lame by comparison.

That’s child’s play next to the monstrous accusations Trump faces, and the political leverage that can be had is similarly small. The prime minister wonders why of all the rotten luck, he had to end up with mere graft allegations.”

The aide noted that while in Palestinian media, and the Arab press in general, Israeli leaders are invariably depicted as child-eating, bloodthirsty connivers, domestic Israeli media, which overwhelmingly lean left, have yet to adopt that line even toward Netanyahu, who is perceived as the most right-wing leader the country has ever had.

“One gets the sense that Haaretz, Yediot, and the other left-wing media know just how adversarial and irresponsible they can get without crossing the lines American media have crossed in the case of Trump,” added another aide. “That’s just too bad, because there’s no way [Yesh Atid chief MK Yair] Lapid would be leading in the polls right now if Maariv, or Walla, or Ynet, or some other Israeli source were to publish an unsubstantiated story of Netanyahu enjoying a wine-soaked orgy with various species of wild goat.”
