Building Residents Scheming To Foist Passover Cleaning Of Air Raid Shelter On One Another

None of the households know that every other household plots to do to them what they plot to do to all the others.

Bat Yam, April 7 – Renewed missile attacks from both Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Houthi rebels in Yemen have made the accessibility and sanitary conditions of the communal underground protective space in their apartment house of immediate relevance once more – and has prompted each of the tenants and homeowners to plot ways to get any of the others to perform the traditional spring cleaning of the shelter, building sources disclosed today.

The seven apartments in the 37 Jerusalem Road building house a total of 25 people, all but one of them couples or families. Each of the adults and several of the adolescents in the residences began last week to develop ways to avoid having to clean the shelter for Passover in addition to their own residences – but not to neglect it, which would prove awkward for everyone during the holiday, when almost all grain products are off limits – by manipulating any or all of the rest of the building’s inhabitants into agreeing to the task.

Conversations with the inhabitants of each unit in the building revealed that none of the households appeared to know that every other household was plotting to do to them what they were plotting to do to all the others.

“I think we can get Ruslana and Maxim to do it,” remarked Dana Azoulay of 2B to her husband Itzik, referring to the Belsky family of Apartment 3A, unaware that the Maxim Belsky had already put out feelers to the Cohens in 3B to determine whether they might collaborate on hoodwinking both the Azoulays in 2B and the Sharons, an older couple in the fourth-floor penthouse into performing the cleaning – while also planning to scheme with those same two households to induce the Cohens to do it.

Meanwhile, over the last two days, a teenage member of the Hosseinoff family in 1A has made subtle adjustments to the shelter furniture that she knows the 1B Feiner family will dislike and feel compelled to change, which would also expose some trash planted behind and underneath that furniture – in the hopes that causing them to clear the obvious mess would evolve into a more comprehensive cleaning operation. The most recent air raid siren, however, caught the Feiners out of town, and they remain oblivious so far to the rearranged furniture in the shelter.

This year the residents do not have the option of last year’s resolution of the predicament, because Dana Azoulay’s OCD-afflicted sister, who had been displaced to Bat Yam, has returned to her home in the north now that the war with Hezbollah has faded and allowed the inhabitants of that region to resume normal life there.
