Celebrity Claims Was Assaulted In North Tel Aviv By Men Yelling ‘This Is Bibi Country’

“It never used to be this way. Obviously, the far-right is establishing outposts here.”

Tel Aviv, June 6 – A news presenter on one of Israel’s several left-leaning television “evening magazines” alleged today that he had fallen victim to a pair of thugs in the upscale, left-dominant Ramat Aviv neighborhood, who hit him and took away the sandwich he had just bought, while yelling epithets and insisting people of his political bent do not belong there.

Barak Hasson, 35, host of the nightly program Channel Two Newshour, told other journalists this morning that two men accosted him just off Albert Einstein Boulevard at a few minutes before eleven last night. They hit him, took away his chicken sandwich baguette, and shouted, “This is Bibi country!” His fellow journalists in turn shared the story far and wide, and expressed their own outrage at the growing brazenness of the pro-Netanyahu faction.

“This is beyond outrageous,” declared Ben Caspit, a veteran newsman and staunch critic of Netanyahu. “It’s yet another example – as if we need any more – of the threat to democracy that Bibi and his thugs represent. This wasn’t just an assault on a person, or even on a journalist. It was an assault on the very foundation of our liberal-democratic society. Netanyahu must resign now.”

Reporters seeking further details on the incident encountered some difficulties in pinning down specifics. “We just have to take his word for it, I guess,” surmised Yediot Aharonot journalist Gal Libbel. “It all makes sense, anyway. Only a moron would have trouble accepting that the far-left stronghold of Ramat Aviv is actually teeming with Likud gangsters.”

“It never used to be this way. Obviously, the far-right is establishing outposts here.”

Some even accused Netanyahu himself of orchestrating, if not personally perpetrating, the alleged assault. “I wouldn’t put it beyond him – he’s a desperate man,” argued analyst Pia Taba’at. “He knows the media keep shining a light on his corruption and incompetence, so he lashes out. I wish I could say I’m surprised.”

Hasson filed a report with the police; a department spokesman demurred when asked about any investigation. “We’ve put out a call for the public to provide any information they may have,” said Lieutenant Temi Mut. “I’m not at liberty to disclose anything further.”

Hasson and other journalists rushed to dismiss or contradict reports of two men wearing and carrying anti-Netanyahu gear in the vicinity of the alleged incident right after the time reported to police. “I wish you wouldn’t traffic in misinformation like that,” they scolded.
