Europe: Slaughter Of Jews Kosher, Kosher Slaughter Not

250px-SchectBrussels, April 20 – In a clear sign of Western civilization’s progress, European countries that made it a ritual to slaughter Jews are outlawing Jewish ritual slaughter.

The continent with the bloodiest history when it comes to Jews has evolved into a paragon of concern for the defenseless, as country after country considers or adopts a ban on the Jewish practice of shechitah, in which an animal is rendered permissible for eating under Jewish dietary law. Various European countries or districts have deemed the practice cruel to animals, often the same countries – such as Denmark – that shoot and butcher giraffes and lions simply because the expense of caring for them is inconveniently high.

For centuries, preachers and governments from Lisbon to Moscow cast the abuse and murder of Jews as a religious obligation; during the Crusades, tens of thousands of Jews were killed as the pilgrims and soldiers swept through the Rhine Valley, egged on by their religious leaders and unchecked by commanders and noblemen. The Blood Libel was born there and flourished from England on south and east, sparking officially sanctioned massacres and persecution that continued into the twentieth century. The same civilization now considers itself enlightened, however, and channels its anti-Jewish lust into more subtle forms of discrimination, proclaiming a concern for animal welfare as it does nothing to reduce the consumption of meat, poultry, fish, or other foodstuffs that necessitates the mass killing of life forms that can feel pain.

Similar humanitarian concerns are behind the drive to outlaw ritual circumcision in some parts of Europe, though such a ban has yet to become law. “Our chief concern is the need to deny there is anything unique to humans, or any individual human,” says Catherine Ashton, who is spearheading a European Union project to erase the unique heritage and connection of Jews to the land that spawned them.

“We are proud that our world view has developed beyond the primitive,” she explains. “Some of our greatest leaders have in fact been vegetarian, such as Adolph Hitler.”
