“Once again, the world stands idly as Israel wantonly ignores all international norms.”
Gaza City, October 15 – Human rights groups castigated Israel for its latest actions in the Gaza Strip, observing that the bombing has prevented residents of the coastal territory from their customary expressions of joy at Jewish misfortune in the form of sweets given to all who pass by.
Amnesty International, Btselem, Médecins Fans Frontières, Human Rights Watch, and several smaller organizations issued condemnations today of the ongoing air assault against targets in the Gaza Strip by the Israel Air Force and other units, following an invasion of Israel just over a week ago in which Palestinian terrorist slaughtered, kidnapped, tortured, raped, wounded, and mutilated thousands of Israelis, mostly women, children, and the elderly. The organizations denounced the Jewish State’s strikes, which disrupted the candy-distribution celebrations of the October 7 pogrom.
“These brutal strikes are a direct racist attack on Palestinian social rituals and freedom of expression,” asserted Human Rights Watch operative Omar Bashir. “Once again, the world stands idly as Israel wantonly ignores all international norms and rains disproportionate destruction on the innocents of Gaza.”
“Israel must suspend all offensive operations and reopen the border for the movement of sweets,” demanded Amnesty International director Agnes Callamard. “Anything less is a cruel violation of Palestinian dignity and human rights.” Ms. Callamard issued no such stand-alone statement in the wake of the Palestinian attack on Southern Israel, but did, like other “concerned” governments, organizations, and commentators, admonish Israel to exercise “restraint” in its response to the massacres, the death toll from which now stands at 1300, 3000 wounded, and 200 abducted to Gaza.
The groups also accused Israel of allowing insufficient celebratory opportunities along the evacuation “safe zones” the IDF has declared in the territory, after instructing Gazans in the northers section of the Strip to flee to the south and avoid getting caught in IDF-Hamas crossfire. The organizations praised Hamas for warning Gazans against compliance with the IDF instructions, since all that movement would interfere with continued distribution of candies to celebrate Israeli and Jewish deaths.
The organizations also cautioned that they foresee an impending shortage of such sweets in the Gaza Strip now that Israel has closed all movement of goods, water, and electricity to the territory. A statement by Btselem called the ban on candy and candy-ingredient importation, “inhumane” and “a violation of the Laws of Armed Conflict.” The only way Israel can comply with humanitarian law, stated Btselem, is to open the border, allow Palestinians to rape, murder, and pillage, and thank them for the privilege.
