Judean Intelligence Absconds With Cartloads Of Parthian Archery Program Cuneiform Tablets

Judean agents deployed in the Parthian capital had identified an old grain silo on the outskirts of the city as the storage facility housing the secret trove.

Parthian inscriptionJerusalem, July 19 – The administration of Queen Salome scored an intelligence and public relations coup this week with the announcement that agents of her kingdom had obtained and spirited out of enemy territory clay and stone tablets into which were etched details of the enemy’s controversial pursuit of advanced weaponry.

The Jewish regent’s spokesman convened a media conference to display and discuss the acquisition and what the palace contends is incriminating evidence that the Parthian regime continues to pursue bows and arrows capable of reaching distances others cannot, despite signed commitments by its government not to engage in such an endeavor.

Hyrcanus, the representative, spoke in front of tables containing dozens of cuneiform tablets and a number of papyrus scrolls that purport to detail the Parthian pursuit of the controversial technology, which the emerging Mesopotamian power might deploy against its rivals in the region.

“Our agents conducted a daring raid deep inside Parthian territory to obtain these documents,” stated Hyrcanus, gesturing toward the tablets and scrolls. “This evidence convincingly shows that the Parthian regime is deceiving the world with its agreement not to pursue advanced weaponry that threatens stability in the region and beyond. We call upon others in the international community to admit the deal they signed will not prevent Parthia from obtaining the dangerous technology, as those nations claimed it would when promoting the agreement.”

Other government sources provided some details about the operation that seized the tablets and scrolls. A Judean security official speaking on condition of anonymity revealed that Judean agents deployed in the Parthian capital had identified an old grain silo on the outskirts of the city as the storage facility housing the secret trove. A group of dozens of agents sneaked past the guard, loaded the tablets and scrolls onto carts, and escaped before anyone noticed a security breach. The group then spirited the cuneiforms and papyri out of Parthia by yet-undisclosed means, and eventually to Jerusalem where the materials have been under examination and analysis for several months.

“It was as daring an operation as any of which I’ve ever heard,” remarked the Roman ambassador in Jerusalem. “If the allegations are true, and that of course has yet to be determined, then the Parthian regime has much to answer for. We must all be prepared for the eventuality of hostilities with the Parthians over this matter, and better this affair be resolved before they obtain game-changing weapons than after.”
