Analysts cautioned that Iran might not be able to survive many more victories.
Tehran, March 24 – Iran’s Supreme Leader made another announcement today praising the Ansar Allah militant movement, praising its latest triumph in the form of destroying American surface-to-surface and air-to surface weapons by having targets explode around the weapons when the weapons struck them.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared the Tehran-backed Houthi rebels – who control a significant part of fractured Yemen – victorious today for at least the second time in as many weeks, following a series of US airstrikes on strategic Houthi assets by US air and naval platforms in the region. The missiles were destroyed as soon as the fuel depots, radar systems, missile launchers, arsenals, and other resources hit them.
“Yemen is victorious,” posted Khamenei’s official account on X, as he did last week during a previous round of American strikes. He spat a warning against the Trump administration, threatening further humiliations if US “aggression” against “innocent Muslims” continues.
The proclamation echoed earlier ones by Khamenei declaring Hezbollah triumphant after Israel eliminated the entire leadership and mid-level commands of the Iran-backed organization in Lebanon last year. Hezbollah spent a year launching rockets at northern and central Israel to support similar terrorism by Hamas in the south – with occasional contributions from the Houthis. A brief Israeli invasion of Lebanon to root out Hezbollah – Tehran’s flagship proxy militia – from south of the Litani River, though not permanently effective, further weakened the organization, with the collapse of the Iran-allied Assad regime in Syria sounding a death knell for robust Iranian influence in the Levant.
Analysts cautioned that Iran might not be able to survive many more victories. “There were previous Iranian triumphs such as exploding air-defense batteries and radars, which detonated when Israeli missiles touched them,” recalled commentator Pyrrhus Gallipoli. “Also, a whole bunch of Iranian nuclear scientists stopped or altered the trajectory of Israeli bullets with their vital organs, and there was an entire nuclear program archive that encumbered an untold number of Israeli agents who had to schlep the documents and magnetic media out of the country. Even now, that material occupies precious storage space in Israeli intelligence facilities.”
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps chief Qassem Soleimani, whom Trump’s first administration assassinated, similarly took out an American drone with his car.
Gallipoli speculated about other triumphs, but many of those remain in the realm of rumor, given the secretive world of international sabotage operations. He also noted that Iran seems not to be troubled by analogous American triumphs, such as when hundreds of Argentinian civilians got in the way of Iran-sponsored explosions in Buenos Aires in the 1990’s.
