Pundits Warn Israel: Further Gaza Action Will Squander Nonexistent International Goodwill

“The time for a humanitarian ceasefire is now, so that Israel can restore international goodwill for its offensive to the none it enjoyed before.”

London, November 20 – Opinion writers and TV commentators admonished the leadership of the Jewish State today not to fully prosecute its ongoing offensive against the Hamas terrorist group, lest the collateral damage and civilian suffering that entails erode global sympathy for the operation, which the country does not have anyway.

Pundits around the world took to social media, televised segments, and newspaper columns today to continue to urge Israel to implement a ceasefire and not to maintain its so-far-relentless assault on Hamas positions and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The commentators cited both the mounting human cost to the human-shield civilians behind whim Hamas positions its men and materiel, and the consequent exhaustion of international tolerance that never existed in the first place for Israel’s effort to destroy the group that invaded the country on October 7 and engaged in mass murder, rape, mutilation, abduction, and torture, and looting.

“Israel’s refusal to abate its operations will surely use up the zero international sympathy it has,” argued Thomas Friedman in The New York Times. “The time for a humanitarian ceasefire is now, so that Israel can restore international goodwill for its offensive to the none it enjoyed before this episode.”

“They’re squandering the nonexistent goodwill they started out with,” chastised former Bernie Sanders campaign adviser Matt Duss in an interview on MSNBC. “Israel can never hope to bring global sympathy to its side. I mean in general. I’m trying to formulate a coherent argument here, but it would be predicated on Israel being treated normally, which I know isn’t a thing. But I guess theoretically, if we weren’t talking about Israel, but a country I like – say, Russia – we could plausibly claim that a little bit of restraint could regenerate goodwill.”

“Like the goodwill we look to foster for Hamas,” he added. “Just look at how readily everyone forgot about the 1400 dead, the mutilations, the rapes, the torture, all of that, and now wants to laud Hamas for treating hostages well. Israel should do- well, I’m not going to suggest Israel act like Hamas, because that would expose my hypocrisy, but I think you get the idea.”

The pundits warned that continuing the offensive and pounding Hamas without respite will expose Israel to accusations of indiscriminate bombing, genocide, ethnic cleansing, brutality, war crimes, crimes against humanity, Apartheid, and mass murder, as opposed to when Israel is not engaged in such operations, when it merely faces accusations of indiscriminate bombing, genocide, ethnic cleansing, brutality, war crimes, crimes against humanity, Apartheid, and mass murder.
