Upcoming ‘Batman’ Reboot Reported To Erase Indigenous Gotham Palestinians

As it is known in the original Arabic, Gathma.

Batman logoHollywood, July 9 – Indications have emerged via leaks from Warner Brothers that a scheduled iconic superhero action film scheduled for release early next year fails to depict Palestinians native to the city where most of the action takes place, drawing ire from progressive activists.

Unconfirmed reports from sources claiming knowledge of Batman: Doomsday production detail a litany of cultural sins the film commits, chief among them the erasure of indigenous Palestinians from their homeland, Gotham City. Representatives of Arab-American and Palestinian organizations rushed to condemn Director Zack Snyder for what they called another evil in a long line of wrongs Palestinians have suffered since 1948.

Council on American-Islamic Relations spokesman Naqba Nakhsa told reporters his organization had filed a discrimination complaint with Los Angeles County authorities. “Dispossessing Palestinians of their ancestral homes cannot occur again,” he stated. “We will not tolerate further erasure of Palestinian culture, not least in the cradle of Palestinian civilization and history, Gotham City – or, as it is known in the original Arabic, Gathma.”

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) threatened a Congressional inquiry into the matter. “Warner Brothers Studios has more than a little bit to answer for,” she hissed to journalists. “The film that started all of this, the 1989 Tim Burton release, established the precedent of erasing Palestinians from Gathma, and every single subsequent Batman film, no matter the director, studio, screenwriter, or cast, followed in his dark footsteps. It is past time for Hollywood in general, and I’m not stereotyping here but you know (((whom))) I mean, and Warner Brothers in particular, to ensure proper representation of, and salute to, the Palestinians of Batman’s hometown. They have suffered enough.”

Neither Ms. Tlaib nor Mr. Nakhsa deigned to explain how Palestinians in Gotham remain in Gotham if they have been dispossessed of it and exiled, nor how their Palestinian origins square with Gotham’s location in North America. Questions on the subject met accusations of Islamophobia, support for fascism, and insinuations that the questioner wishes to rape and murder immigrants, not necessarily in that order.

Studio executives declined to comment on the matter. “There is no such film in production at Warner Brothers,” declared a perplexed Vice President Toby Emmerich. “What in blazes are you people talking about?”

Mr. Emmerich’s statement served only to rile up the activists further, as they seized on his words as evidence that the studio was engaging in Nakba denial and then denying engaging in any such activity.
